CONTINUING cold weather is causing pneumonia breakdowns in growing cattle even after turn-out, says Cumbrian vet Neil Frame.
Calves that suffered RSV type pneumonia last winter and have damaged lungs are showing signs of pneumonia and pleurisy.
"These must be treated again with antibiotics and anti-inflammatories to kill any bacteria."
Cheshire vet John Dawson, of the Willows Vet Group, has seen bullocks housed in airy sheds also suffering from pneumonia this spring. He advises turning out these cattle to prevent the infection spreading, and treating them.
