Pollution cases fall to lowest since 80s

CASES of farm pollution in England and Wales fell by nearly a quarter last year to their lowest since the mid-1980s.

Figures obtained by FW, before the Environment Agencys annual pollution report in May, show there were 2111 agricultural incidents last year compared with 2720 in 1995 and 3329 in 1994.

Less than 30 of these were classed as major, compared with 32 last year.

The NFU said the decline was due to the £300m spent on capital investment in farm pollution equipment in England and Wales over the past seven years. &#42
