Posters attacked

POSTERS claiming British meat is riddled with a cocktail of drugs have forced the NFU to make an official complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority.

The complaint against the Vegetarian Societys advertisements centres on claims which inaccurately imply that veterinary medicines can be passed directly to consumers in the food chain and which link meat consumption with diseases such as cancer.

The posters claimed the banned growth promoter clenbuterol was still being widely used, while other substances quoted in the advertisement are either no longer on the market or not prescribed to farm animals. &#42
