Poultry verdicts?

POULTRY farmers are likely to face legislation demanding an increase in cage size but will escape a ban on battery systems.

The Farm Animal Welfare Council, set to release its report as FW went to press, is expected to call for an increase in cage size from 450sq cm to 600sq cm a bird.

Calls for additional training for poultry workers and improved bird docility from breeding companies are also expected to be made.
