AN EAST ANGLIAN farmer endured a two-hour ordeal trapped in his beet-harvester cab after power lines collapsed on to the vehicle and threatened to electrocute him.
The unnamed farmer, working at Elm, near Wisbech, was rescued by fire crews after electricity workers turned off the supply in the area.
One of three 11,000V live wires was left touching the side of the cab after the wires were brought down.
Fire officer praised the farmer for staying in his cab – even though he was described as cold and frightened .
A fire brigade spokesman said: “He could have been electrocuted if he had tried to leave the harvester.”
He added: “We would warn all farmers to be careful when using high vehicles near power cables.”
