Precision progress

PROGRESS towards a fully integrated precision farming system is moving steadily forward.

At Smithfield FarmTech Keith Rennie Machinery displayed a prototype system for on-the-move automatic adjustment of fertiliser rates across the field, based on a fertiliser map.

Badged Calistar, the system is designed for use with KRMs Calibrator 2002 device, an option on the firms twin disc spreaders.

Calistar takes the Calibrator system several stages further. It automatically adjusts the rate across the field according to information stored on a "smart card" which is slotted in the back of the tractor-mounted Calistar control box. The box doubles as a GPS receiver and map/rate information display. Application rate information is loaded on to the "smart card" in the farm office.

In the cab the operator can monitor his position within the field on the control boxs screen along with the rate the spreader is applying at that point. &#42
