Prescott demand for country housing irrational
WEST SUSSEX County Council accused John Prescott, deputy Prime Minister, of “unlawfully and irrationally” demanding an extra 12,800 houses inside its boundaries.
The councils accusation in the High Court was the latest development in a national dispute over plans for millions of new houses in the countryside over the next 20 years.
It insists the demand for extra homes is procedurally flawed and at odds with national and regional planning guidance.
It is seeking a judicial review of the deputy Prime Ministers decision last December requiring the council to alter its proposals to meet the extra allocation.
John Gummer, former environment secretary, submitted an affidavit supporting West Sussexs application. The hearing continues.
