Prices reach 1700gns at Taunton

AN entry of 135 cattle were consigned from 15 of the West Countrys leading herds at the Harvest Gold sale of Holsteins at Taunton where prices reached 1700gns.

Eight entries achieved four-figure bids to help level the 69 calved heifers at £706. It was the Etazon Lord Lily calved heifer Ciderhouse Lily Fleur 4th that made the days top price for David and Valerie Norman of Frome, Somerset.

Giving 34.6kg on the day, she is the first calf out of Ciderhouse Dombinator Fleur and has the high yielding and successful show cow Fleury Nick Lueur as second dam. Buyer was David Eagle of Essex.

Rob Bugler from Bridport, Dorset sold his Wilcove Luke Carol at 1500gns to SE Trapp and Sons, Tiverton. This Cleitus Luke calved heifer is out of the 13,370kg Banton Vanguard Carol 18th.

"A stylish cow from a proven family" was how Derek and Jeremy Dennis described their Dinnaton Raid Jud Total Eclipse. Bred in their successful herd at Ivybridge, Devon she had just dropped her second calf after a 9355kg performance as a heifer. Shes by Dinnaton Chesapeake Judge and out of a 9500kg dam by Hanoverhill Raider.

Eclipse was giving 40kg on the day and realised 1200gns to Tom Lett, Bristol.

Averages: nine cows in-milk £788, four cows in-calf £740, 69 calved heifers £706, 20 served heifers £584, two bulls £577 and two heifer calves £147 (Greenslade Taylor Hunt). &#42
