Bluefaced Leicester tup sets new record

 The strong Mule ewe lamb trade this year is filtering back down the line to Bluefaced Leicester tup breeders, with a firey trade at Bentham on Saturday resulting in a new record for a Bluefaced Leicester shearling tup being set.

Selling for £20,000 was the champion from the pre-sale show, a Keer T006 son from Gordon Rawsthorne, Nether Keller. It was knocked down to R and P E Hargreaves and Sons, Barley, Burnley. He was out of a Star Green M001-sired dam.

And a female breed record was also set on the same day when a shearling ewe from the same vendor sold for £5800 to G W Whitwell, Settle. This one was by Swathburrn Z001.

Other leading prices on the day included shearling tup sales at £7500, £7000, £4200, £3100 and £3000 for Mr Rawsthorne and shearling tup sales of £4000 for R and P E Hargreaves, £3600 for J K and B E Townley and £3400 for W and D Lawson and Son. (Bentham and District Farmers Auction Mart).
