Producers picket Iceland over imports

ABOUT 50 pig and poultry producers picketed the Deeside headquarters of one of the UKs leading frozen food retailers on Monday (18 January).
The protesters, who gathered outside Iceland Foods near Chester, claimed the company makes extensive use of imported pork and poultry meat.
“Iceland supported the UK red-meat sector last year, but many of us are unhappy that their labelling does not make it clear to customers that products contain imported meat,” said a spokesman for the demonstrators.
The picket was generally peaceful and no arrests were made. However, the front and rear lights of a lorry were broken when a driver forced his way through the crowd.
