Public inquiry result soon
FARMERS will have to wait until next week to find out whether a legal bid to force the government to hold a public inquiry into foot-and-mouth disease has been successful.
Two high court judges listened to four days of evidence during a judicial review challenge last week. At the end of the hearing Lord Justice Simon Brown and Mr Justice Scott Baker said they would return their written verdict within three weeks.
But experts hope the judges will not take that long. Law specialist Tim Russ of West Country law firm Clarke Willmott Clarke said he expected a final decision to be made in the middle of the week beginning Monday (Mar 4). *
