Public to have say on GM food

THE government is to encourage the public to have a say in genetically modified (GM) foods.

In future, it will publish full details of all applications for GM foods on the Internet.

Anyone wishing to comment about a product will be able them on the site.

Before approving any GM food, the government said the committee which makes the assessment will be required to take these views into account.

The move is designed to counter criticism that the government has been too supportive of leading biotechnology companies.
