Pyre foods OK

CANCER-causing chemicals in food produced close to a foot-and-mouth pyre are within normal ranges, according to food safety watchdogs.

The Food Standards Agency has said that its advice not to consume milk and whole milk products from animals that had been grazing within 2km of the pyre is no longer necessary.

The new advice follows three months of tests in areas such as Angelsey, Cornwall and Devon. About 70 milk samples were taken and the results, with a couple of exceptions that are not thought to be linked to pyres, are within the normal range.
