NORTHERN dairy farmers had quality in quantity to choose from when 441 head went under the hammer at Carlisle last week.
The event was the dispersal of Europon Livestock UKs Auch-enhuive herd.
Moved from Aberdeenshire, the scale of the dispersal provided some buyers with bargain buys but keen competition for the best of offer, which included a great run of milking heifers by Hanoverhill SS Clyde, helped achieve an average of £608 for 234 cows and heifers in-milk and/or in-calf.
And it was a September-calved heifer by Clyde, and in-calf to Kolhorner Floris, that topped the trade at 980gns taken by Mrs J Bell, Carlisle.
Other averages: 27 served heifers £634 and 82 bulling and maiden heifers £356. (Harrison and Hetherington) *
