Quota trading to be probed
MPs are to investigate milk quota trading in the UK. The cross-party agriculture select committee of the House of Commons says it has decided to hold a brief inquiry into the subject.
It will be probing quota transfer rules, how the market operates, and any problems that have arisen in quota sales or leasing. It will also consider possible reforms of the UK milk quota market.
But it will not be covering any others aspects of the milk quota systems nor the way the markets operate elsewhere in the EU. Written evidence has to be sent to the committee clerk by June 2. Witnesses may be called to give verbal evidence later. *
