Rain stops, but flood threat remains

MORE flood warnings have been issued for rivers and coastal areas as water levels continue to rise even though little rain fell overnight on Tuesday (4 April).
Fifteen warnings for East Anglia reflect the movement of peaks of water through the river system, which leads to higher river levels in certain locations.
High tides preventing water escaping from rivers are compounding problems caused by the downpours earlier in the week.
The Environment Agency said the situation would continue for some days because tides would not peak until Wednesday (5 April) or Thursday (6 April),
Red warnings were issued for the Great Ouse river between Newport Pagnell and the Oakley river in Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire.
The river Ivel between Biggleswade and Blunham in Bedfordshire, and the rivers Welland and Glen in Lincolnshire and Leicestershire are also on red alert.
A red warning means that flooding is expected to affect large areas of farmland, property and roads.
People living in those areas are advised by the Environment Agency that it is their responsibility to look after their family and property.
