Rams clock up £2.1m record

AN ENTRY of over 8200 sheep, combined with a 90% clearance, ensured a record £2.1m turnover at Mondays NSA ram sale at Builth Wells, Powys.

Of the 35 breeds on offer, the top price of 2200gns went to a Texel yearling ram from Frank Retson and Struan Nimmo.

Close behind, at 1800gns, were two Bluefaced Leicester ram lambs and a Charollais yearling.

The event also marked this countrys first official offering of Zwartbles sheep. This section saw ewes top at 410gns, with ram lambs making to 250gns.n
