OILSEED rape prices have fallen as harvest continues and new supplies reach the market.
Better weather during recent days has seen more combines out in the fields. The price of ex-farm oilseed rape has fallen by as much as £4 to £146/ tonne.
Rape prices are also being driven lower by expectations that the impending UK grain harvest may be better than expected. The European harvest is also expected to be sizeable and put further pressure on UK prices.
As always at this time of year, the main concern now is over quality. Swathed crops lying on wet or damp ground have yielded badly. But reports from many regions suggest that later harvested crops will show some improvement.
Early this morning, ex-farm rape was trading at £146.10/ tonne (East Anglia), £144.70/ tonne (Midlands), and £146.00/ tonne (North-east).
