Raspberry market bears fruit

THE market for fresh raspberries is still growing, reports The Herald.

Tastes are changing ,from a berry with a tart taste to one which is sweeter.

Members of the Scottish Soft Fruit Growers co-operative are already breeding produce in anticipation of the varieties passing all the tests before coming to the commercial market.

Breeders are also looking for varieties which will pick over a longer period, in line with consumer demand.

The Scottish Crop Research Institute is carrying out work on husbandry techniques to extend the marketing season.
