Reader safety tip: Check the kids before moving machines

Welsh farmer John Roberts is January’s winner of the Farmers Weekly safety tip of the month competition, run in association with Buckler Boots.

Mr Roberts’s prize is a pair of boots of his choice from the Buckler Boot range.

With five grandchildren, three of which live on the family farm near Welshpool, Mr Roberts is particularly aware of the risk of children being hurt on farms.

“My advice is to never move tractors and telehandlers without checking where children are first.

“I never move a machine without checking beforehand that they are inside or I am able to see them play in the distance.

“There are so many blind spots on a telehandler in particular that I have made it a rule.”

Mr Roberts wins a pair of boots of his choice from the Buckler Boot range.
