Reader safety tip: Set times to ‘check in’ when working alone

Cornish reader Joseph Sweet has won our safety tip of the month competition, run in association with Buckler Boots.

Mr Sweet, who lives and works on his parent’s dairy farm near Newquay in Cornwall, says he and his family arrange set times when they will talk to each other if they are working alone, so they can check that everyone is safe.

“Being a reasonably small farm, there are a number of jobs you find yourself doing alone, whether it’s with the cows or out in the field.

It is always important to keep in contact with each other and set times that we will talk to one another. This way, if someone doesn’t answer their phone or call back within 15 minutes or so then we go and check everything is OK.”

Mr Sweet wins a pair of boots from the Buckler Boots range for submitting the winning tip.
