Record £2.94m at Kelso sale
WITH 6270 rams sold in 18 open-air rings – and a top price of £10,000 – the Kelso ram sale in the Scottish Borders brought in a record £2.94m last Friday.
The top price came for a Suffolk lamb from Willie Henderson, Carnwath, Lanarkshire.
It was bought jointly by the Mairs of Kinnermit and James Douglas, Cairness. (The Mairs own consignment made to £4200 for one destined for Northern Ireland.)
The day also saw an event record of £1000 for North Country Cheviots from Robin Dun, Heriot.
Blueface Leicesters sold to £4000 for a lamb from Alan Wight, Midlock, Abington. The buyer was the University of Wales, Aberystwyth.
And British Cereals Exports chairman Barclay Forrest topped the Texel entry, selling one from his Whitemire flock for £2500 to Angela Mairey, Lancashire.
Top for Border Leicesters was the £2400 paid to Jim Stobo, Berwick, by Playfair Farms, Kelso. And Charollais made to £1300 for a shearling from Brian Atkinson, Preston.
