Regina below average in N Yorkshire

PHIL DOWSON, who farms at Epplby, near Richmond, N Yorkshire, combined 15 acres of Regina winter barley on the 3 August.

It yielded 2.4t/acre (0.97t/ha) at between 14-15% moisture – a poor yield by his averages, but but at least it was dry.

Eight hectares of Escort OSR was cut the day after and
yielded approx 30cwt/acre (0.6t/ha) at about 12% moisture.

This was quite pleasing considering the amount of bare patches in the field.

Mallacca winter wheat was treated with glyphosate on Thursday (9 August) and was expected to be ready in about a
week.
