RESULTS LOOK VERY GOOD

One farmer who has used the strip seeder to good effect is Iain Roper-Caldbeck, who runs suckler cows and sheep on 200ha (500 acres) of upland at Thripland Farm, near Biggar, Peeblesshire.

"The results have been very good, especially at bringing clover into the sward," says Mr Roper-Caldbeck.

"It does seem to be very important to mob graze at intervals during the first season to keep the grass down and encourage tillering.

"This method allows us to keep the stock grazing all the way through and, having done some of the better land, we are now moving to rejuvenate some of our hill pasture," he adds.
