Retailers build bridges

THE major retailers at the show were attempting to build better relationships with farmers.

Jocelyn Clarke, who is responsible for the Waitroses regional policy, said the store was stepping up a campaign to source more local produce and quality regional food for its 136 shops.

She pledged to source more local products. "If a supplier can only supply one shop, thats fine, Id be glad to hear from them."

Marks & Spencer announced it wants to bring customers face-to-face with its farmers in a Meet the Farmer pilot programme this autumn, which will see farmers and growers on hand in stores across Britain. &#42
