ROBERT Wiseman Dairies Plc has announced its acquisition of Kilmarnock-based Gilmours Dairy Ltd, today (Tuesday).

The acquisition costing £3.45 million subject to an assessment of net assets will give Wiseman 80% of the issued share capital, with an option to acquire the additional 20% in October.

Gilmours currently supplies 3% of the fresh milk in Scotland from its dairy and depot near Kilmarnock and had a turnover of £8.4 million in 1998 with pre-tax profits of £0.36m.

Managing director of Gilmours, Jim Gilmour, welcomed this move claiming that Gilmours customers will benefit from the level of expertise and range of products that Wiseman currently supply to their own customers.

East Kilbride-based Wisemans has 12% of the UK market at present and views this as a strategic acquisition that will benefit the business as well as existing and future customers.

Alan Wiseman, Chairman of Robert Wiseman Dairies said Gilmours will complement the Wiseman existing operations and will extend its coverage in Ayrshire and south west Scotland.

“We have always stated that customer service and quality of product will remain our main priorities and I can assure all customers of Gilmours that we are keen to serve them in that same way that we serve all Wiseman customers.”
