Russia raises sugar import taxes
RUSSIA has signed a decree raising import taxes on sugar.
Taxes on imports of raw sugar will rise to 75% and to 45% for white, up from 1% and 25% respectively. The changes will be made from 1 August to 31 December.
They follows protests from Russian sugar producers after a four-fold increase in imports to 2.8m tonnes in the first half of the year.
