Rustlers steal farmer’s ‘best cattle’ worth £16,000

Police have appealed to farmers for help after eight cattle, worth about £16,000 each, were stolen from a farm.

The theft happened between 3pm on Friday (31 March) and 7pm on Saturday (1 April).

The stock was stolen from farm buildings off Moor Lane in Youlgrave, Derbyshire.

The missing cattle are:

  • Three Blonde d’Aquitaine cows (chocolate brown and light tan)
  • One Bazadaise cow
  • Two pedigree Limousin cows (red)
  • Two Limousin cows (one red, one black)

Sandra Wood, partner of farmer Jonathan Hall, told the BBC that each cow was worth about £2,000 – and seven were in-calf.

“It’s not just the loss of the cow, it’s the loss of calf too,” she added.

“These people haven’t just taken the first cattle which came to the door, they have been and picked what they fancied… our best cattle.”

PC James Bowler, of Derbyshire police, appealed to anyone with information to get in touch.

“Please contact the rural crime team either by email at DRCT@derbyshire.pnn.police.uk or call 101 quoting crime reference 17000135307.”
