S Devon dispersal

THE PITTESCOMBE herd of South Devons, owned by F S Pope and Partners, Tavistock, was dispersed to a top price of 1000gns.

Although an influx of buyers from East Anglia and the Midlands converged on the sale, the top price for a female was paid by Mr Goide, a local breeder who owns the Collacombe herd. He took a 1990-bred cow by Roskymer Ferdinand 18th, due this summer with her fourth.

Market Harborough-based E Broome went home with six animals paying most, 880gn, for an in-calf heifer by stock bull ET SDE Forester 3rd, who sold for 1750gns to S J Cockrem, Plymouth.

Four older cows went to Lincoln Red breeder J Garner, Boston and N R Whitwell, Bury St Edmunds took five females for his newly established pedigree herd.
