Salad spud debut
FIRST commercial liftings of a new salad potato variety regularly producing over 30 tubers a root are expected in Suffolk towards the end of the month.
Pearl, developed by Doncaster-based Higgins from an Arran Pilot variant found in 1991, was recently national listed, notes technical director Graeme Byers. It is suited to both the punnet trade and uses specifically requiring small tubers, such as airline meals, he says. *
