Scots barley growers urged to export

SCOTTISH growers have been urged to export barley by a German speaker at a seminar organised by the Home Grown Cereals Authority (HCGA).

The speaker, a raw materials buyer for a leading German maltster, said the market was “wide open” if customers were given assurances on quality and traceability.

UK barley was attractive to Continental maltsters because it offered a different variety grown on different soil and under different climactic conditions, he said.
