Scots dairy farmers lobby MSPs

A GROUP of Scottish dairy farmer organised a lobby of members of the Scottish parliament yesterday to ensure their concerns about the industry were heard.

Led by Evelyn Mundell of Tarbert, a former vice-chairwoman of Scottish Milk, the six-strong group said official figures showed that dairy farmers earned an average of 90p a week.

She suggested that the government should do a U-turn on the issue of compensation and make back payments for the effects of the high pound on the dairy sector.

She also said that grass silage should qualify for area aid payments in the same way as cereals.
