Scots Saler bull top of 3600gns

A BIG crowd turned out for the Saler Cattle Society sale at Castle Douglas last weekend leading to a top price of 3600gns for bulls and 2200gns for females.

Oldean Jurassic, a Foxtrot son from W J Davidson, Moffat, Dumfriesshire, headed the price list and stayed in Scotland selling to J Allison, Dunsyre, Lanark.

An April 1995-bred bull from the Gloucestershire herd of Graham Fishlock and Mike Gilder made 3000gns. Woodvine Kilroy stood second at this years Royal Highland Show. Buyer was R Ironside, Banff.

Three heifers from Graham McClymont, Newton Stewart, led the females at 2200gns and 2000gns twice. Top price was Cuil Jem, junior champion at the RHS, sold to Auchencrosh Farm Partnership, Ballantrae, Girvan.

Averages: 23 bulls £1584; 10 heifers in-calf or with calf £1617; six bulling heifers £1487; and two cows £2362. (Wallets Marts)
