Scottish overshoot adjusted downward
SCOTLANDS arable overshoot has been confirmed at 2.25%, down from the 2.9% estimate announced earlier this year after less favoured area and lowland base areas were combined.
The latest adjustment will see area payments for crops rise slightly; cereals, for example, by about £1.40/ha to £187.96/ha for LFA and to £204.55/ha in the lowlands. Last year, the lowland overshoot was 6.75%, so farmers in this area have now gained at least £2m.
Scottish farm minister Ross Finnie has confirmed that arable area payments, worth more than £126m with agrimonetary compensation, will begin on Nov 16. *
