Second farm summit scheduled

A SECOND summit meeting this year between farm industry leaders and the Government will take place later this month.

Farm union leaders and trade organisation representatives will meet farm minister Nick Brown on Ministry of Agriculture headquarters on 23 November.

Ben Gill, president of the National Farmers Union, is currently formulating a list of topics he wants aired at the meeting.

Prime Minister Tony Blair unveiled a multi-million Pound action plan for the industry at a previous farm summit at Downing Street in March.

A MAFF spokesman refused to comment on what would be discussed at the next meeting or whether farmers can expect another aid package.
