Seed spuds to Italy

ITALIAN potato growers are looking to the UK to help meet their seed potato requirements in the wake of the brown rot epidemic in Holland.

Italy had sourced more than 95% of its seed needs from Holland in recent years. But now the countrys potato growers association, Italpatate, is seeking alternatives.

Earlier this month the PMB hosted a trade visit to the UK. "As a result of this tour the Italians are almost certain to purchase limited quantities of a number of varieties. In addition, a number of other varieties will be going into Italian trials in 1996 for evaluation," says the PMBs overseas manager, Richard Dadson. &#42
