LAND coming out of the old five-year set-aside scheme is not eligible for guaranteed set-aside, MAFF has announced.
Officials had believed farmers with land coming out of the old scheme in 1995 and 1996 could benefit from the guarantee. But this week a MAFF statement admitted they were wrong.
Junior farm minister Tony Baldry said MAFF would be pressing the Commission for changes to the recently agreed rules. He added that he regretted MAFFs December statement "will have misinformed the producers".
"The ministry will write to all growers whose agreements finished in 1995, or will finish in 1996, as soon as the situation is clarified and in good time before 1996 IACS forms have to be returned," he said.
