Sextons are star Reds

PROGENY of the prolific sire Sexton Hermes 2nd dominated the awards and encouraged the liveliest bidding from the crowd at the South Devon Cattle Societys autumn show and sale at Exeter.

The Hermes 2nd son Sexton Conqueror 20th, from leading breeder Richard Harvey, stood male champion and sold for the top price of 1400gns to D A and C M Ashcroft, Alton, Hants for their Clavid herd.

Mr Harvey scored again in the female section taking the championship and reserve titles. Both were daughters of Hermes 2nd. Sexton Snowdrop 353rd stood top and made 900gns and Sexton Kay 112th was runner-up at 950gns. Both heifers were bought by A S and L S Leadbetter for their recently established Swallow herd at Bradford, Wet Yorks. They also gave 900gns apiece for two other Sexton females.

A Sexton bull sired Trewint Baron 5th, which made 1000gns for Peter Rowe. Buyers were Flete Farms, Holbeton, Devon.

Averages eight bulls £888 and 10 females £706. (Norton and Brooksbank.)
