Shapely Texel ram lambs go down a treat at Malvern

A STRONG demand for tight-skinned, well-shaped Texel ram lambs lifted the average price by £77 a head at the breed societys English Premier sale at Malvern.

The event saw prices reach 5400gns for Bettonfield Dynamite.

This son of Cambwell Borderer had achieved an MLC Lean Index of 262 with a 39mm muscle score and was consigned from the Shrewsbury flock of M R and N E Gibbs. He was bought jointly by C S Ponting and Co, G R Newman, D I Corfield and Partners and Drayton Farm Partnership.

Keith Jamieson saw his Annan Double Eagle make 3600gns to Chris Dowler for his Crimscote flock at Stratford-on-Avon while Millend Double Diamond from R M and G L Watkins, Hereford, stood champion and heads for Northern Ireland at 2300gns.

The reserve champion and top priced shearling ram was Swincombe Commander from M C and K D Yeo, Barnstaple. He made 2500gns to J B and M Jones, Nantgaredig, Carmarthenshire.

Leading female bid was 1020gns for a quad-bred shearling that took the reserve championship from F &#42 Chave and Sons Peacehay flock. Buyers were J O and J G Jones, Newtown, Powys.

Marshall Farms collected the top rosette with a shearling from their Chargot flock that made 920gns to Elgin Jones, Lampeter.
