Sheep centre start

KIRKLEY Hall College, Ponteland, Northumbria, has launched itself as the sheep industrys national training centre.

The initiative is supported by the likes of the National Sheep Association, Signet and the NFU. It is the only centre which offers full-time shepherd training courses. It also caters for experienced flockmasters who would like to learn new skills, like marketing.

On-site facilities, including a 900-head lowland flock and 1200 hill ewes, are available for trials.

and breeding trials.

Already a £280,000 application has been sent to the EU for a special training unit, along with another for £60,000 a year to fund shepherd training.
