Sheep dipping could end in five years
SHEEP dipping to kill parasites will probably disappear within the next five years, believes Dr Stuart Taylor, editor of Vet Parasitology.
He said the introduction of the European Union groundwater directive would make disposal of organophosphates and other chemicals expensive.
The two-thirds of sheep farmers who currently spread used sheep dip wash on fields will not be allowed to do so unless they hold a disposal licence which could be upwards of £1,500. It will cost roughly £750 to renew the licence each year, reports The Scotsman.
