Sheep quota start
NOTIFICATION for sales and leases of sheep quota under the 1997 Sheep Annual Premium Scheme got under way in England this week.
Farmers have to notify MAFF of any such deals before submitting any premium claims. The claim period runs from Dec 4, 1996, to Feb 4, 1997.
So far the market has been quiet and, with harvest still in progress, agents expect it to remain so. Early deals value GB lowland quota at about £20 a unit for sale and £6 to £7 for lease. English LFA quota, meanwhile, is selling for about £35 to £40 and leasing for £12 to £14.
