Shooting rights cash passed up

FARMERS could be missing out on valuable extra income from letting out shooting rights, says one shooting agency.

Shooting4all aims to help smaller farmers and landowners diversify or combine with neighbours to substantially boost their earnings. "Profitable shoots can be developed on a comparatively small acreage," says the agency. "This will develop long-term income around which other activities or investment can be planned."

The company offers a carefully tailored package to landowners setting up a new shoot. This includes a one-day site visit and feasibility study, ongoing advice for one season, help in finding required equipment, trade discounts and free advertising.

"We are getting as much as £25/ha (£10/acre) on some units and there is even more to be earned if the farmer is prepared to carry out some minor work such as establishing cover crops or clearing ponds," says the firms Ray Rodgers.
