Simpler grants needed: CLA
SIMPLIFICATION of grant schemes and a common sense approach to modulation are amongst the CLAs requests to the government as it begins its EU presidency.
Policy director Tony Bailey called on government to unravel the bureaucracy surrounding agri-environment and support schemes, which deterred applicants.
He also suggested modulation should be high on the governments agenda. "Detailed discussions on modulation are needed as proposals for a subsidy ceiling based on unit size would have a far greater affect on UK farm businesses, because our farms are larger than the EU average.
"Such a ceiling could, therefore, compromise UK farms as producers would adjust their farms to fit in with any payment protocol, rather than structure their business to maximise its potential."
