Single booster enough
PRODUCERS unable to give ewes booster vaccinations against clostridial diseases and pasteurellosis last year can protect ewes and next seasons lambs by a single booster injection of the combined vaccine.
The advice comes from David Henderson of the Moredun Foundation.
"When ewes have been on a vaccination scheme and had two initial injections, even when one year is missed they will still only need their annual booster," he says. "Providing these ewes are booster vaccinated pre-lambing this coming season, the ewes and their lambs should be well protected."
He claims that last season some ewes were not vaccinated because of poor availability of some products. These ewes and their lambs were at risk from clostridial diseases such as lamb dysentery, pulpy kidney, tetanus and blackleg.
