Sky spies are OK
USING spy-in-the-sky satellites was a "very good technique" for checking on EU farm fraud, farm minister William Waldegrave has declared.
Satellite information had prevented an attempted durum wheat fraud in Italy, which was better than pursuing it afterwards he told the Commons. All EU member states except Luxembourg were either using remote sensing as a control tool by 1994 or, as in the UK, doing trials on it.
MAFF and Intervention Board officials were in close touch with the British National Space Centre about the technique and progress was being made, he said. *
