Son of Ken draws the crowds at Portadown
A TOP price of 2500gns and an average of £1423 for 42 deals was achieved at the Northern Ireland Limousin Clubs show and sale at Portadown.
And it was an impressive son of Pelletstown Ken, the 1996 national junior champion, that drew the highest call for well known breeder Charles McAuley, Toomebridge.
His bull, Carmon Oslo, had a Beef Value of 23 and was +2 for milk.
Hes out of a cow by Shire Evan and was bought by Mark Anderson, Co Armagh. Another son of the Pelletstown sire made 1850gns.
Adrian Richardsons herd at Maguiresbridge produced the 2400gns bull Hillviewfarm Oscar. By Duc, he had a Beef Value of 17 and was bought by Mr Mulligan, Enniskillen.
Greensons Gigolo, who has been so successful as a sire for his Welsh owner Brian Davies, produced a good one for Lisbellaw breeder Kenny Veitch in Albian Official.
Bred out of a cow by Funambule, Official had a 400-day weight of 562kg and a Beef Value of 23. Buyer at 2000gns was Mark Bramiss, Downpatrick.
The show classes were judged by Tom Clyde from Antrim who awarded the championship to McKinney Bros of Maghera with Heathmount Oslo, a Gagnant son with a useful 400-day weight of 630kg. He realised 1500gns.
A Ronick Hawk son stood reserve champion for Edward and Donald McFarland of Trillick with an entry from their Grangewood herd. It made 2000gns to Mr Clyde, Ronaldstown, Co Antrim.
New bloodlines were presented to breeders when K Mullan brought his first bull to the sale from his Coleraine-based herd. Ardlea Nangle is by the imported French sire Junior which goes back to the successful cow Ulla, producer of two Paris Show breed champions. He had a 400-day weight of 623kg and made 1600gns to Mr Simpson, Lisburn.
Pelletstown Ken wielded his influence among the females. He sired the top priced heifer, Carmorn Naomi, paraded by the McAuley family.
She is the first of this sires heifers to be sold and was in-calf to the herds new stock bull Bailea Nocatchim which combines two of the most influential lines in the Bailea herd – Imposant and Gigolo.
Naomi realised 1950gns to E Patterson and Sons, Portadown after taking the female title. The reserve female championship went to a heifer by Redpaths Jaguar shown by Michael Watson and bred in his Hillhead herd at Dundonald near Belfast. She sold for 1000gns to D Barker, Antrim. (Automart).
