South-west says stop it
SOUTH West region NFU members have been told in no uncertain terms to stop their port protests aimed at the French before their actions lead to serious retaliation.
Wednesdays meeting of the York County branch of the NFU urged union director general Richard Macdonald to intervene and get the protests halted.
As well as writing to NFU south-west regional director Anthony Gibson, the York branch is to write to other NFU regions asking them to also call on the south-west to halt its demonstrations.
HQ counsel delegate Wesley Abbey said it was OK for individuals to boycott French produce but it is completely wrong for the NFU or a group parading under the NFU banner to be seen to be stopping French worries or disrupting individual businesses.
"It is wrong and it is illegal and the south-west must stop it and stop it now."
