Soyabean silly season
FARMERS are being advised to delay buying soyabean meal as hot weather drives prices up.
"We are in the silly season with values having risen about £11/t in the space of a week," says Mole Valley Farmers Charles Waldron. He is quoting £154/t for 10t bulk-blown loads of Brazilian soya.
"Soya prices may weaken," says Martin Whiting of Trident Feeds. "And if the cereal harvest is good other straights could be competitively priced, too."
Brewers grains, meanwhile, are difficult to find, prompting a renewed interest in maize gluten and rapeseed meal. The former is currently available from Cargill at £105/t, the latter at £101/t.
