Soyameal climb expected to be temporary

By FWi staff

INCREASED interest in Chicago soya futures helped push the UK market for soyameal higher this week. But the price rise is expected to be temporary.

Rumours of a tightening in vegetable oil supplies saw the price of imported high-protein soyameal climb by £5 to £166/ tonne. Analysts say the climb is little more than a blip, however. Supplies are expected to cheapen as Brazils soya harvest hots up.

For the time being, rape meal is a cheaper source of protein. Home-produced supplies fell by £10 on the week to close at £101/ tonne.

After trading at £16/ tonne for weeks, brewers grains eased by £2 to just £14/ tonne. Home-produced wheatfeed pellets eased £2 to £79/ tonne. But home-produced maize gluten gained £1 and is now selling at £80/ tonne.

Imported straights continued to feel the effects of the strong Pound. Most prices are falling week-by-week as Sterling strengthens. Distillers dried pellets eased by £1 to £104/ tonne. And citrus pulp dropped £4 to £70/ tonne.

All other ruminant straights are available at last weeks prices.
